Oh Ma Demeure

This song cuts deep into my heart that’s why I chose it to be the first one to meet you all!

I left home 13 years ago. It was incredibly hard for me to be far away from everything and everyone that I’ve ever known and loved so dearly like my best friends, my parents, and Nana, whom I’ll never be able to see again and whom I wish could have heard my debut song she would’ve been very proud of me.

Classical piano is deeply rooted in me. I used to wake up and sleep everyday to the sound of my brother Hatem playing the piano. None of our neighbors complained even when he played at 4am. The sound of the piano is so embedded in my persona—I grew up playing classical piano which was the first thing that formed me as a musician, but because it reminded me of home, subconsciously, I stepped away from it for a long while until I got back to it fairly recently and recorded this piece in the studio.

The moment I heard Gnossienne 1 I fell in love with it and the lyrics poured into my head and started echoing in the valley of my brain. Erik Satie, who’s known to be a French composer, lived in Aleppo for a while, hence his Middle Eastern influence in his western composition which speaks intimately to me. That’s how this song was manifested.
